  Laureola 2013 – Annual Junior Sports Day

The Annual Junior School Sports Day was held on 28th Feb. 2013. All the students from classes 1 to V participated in the various drills & P.T. display. The students of class V marched smartly in their contingents. The parents were very happy to see their children participate and perform in their colourful costumes. There were many interesting races for the students and the prizes were distributed by the Principal Dr. Mary Thomas.

   
     

The King & I – Senior School Annual Day 2012

Somerville School, Greater NOIDA celebrated its Annual Day on 26th October 2012. The students from classes VI to XII performed a beautiful musical extravaganza titled ‘The King & I’. It was a dedication to the Late ‘Pop star’ Michael Jackson. The students mesmerized the audience with their lively and colourful performance on the stage. It was par excellence and the parents were enamoured to see their wards perform as professional dancers. The highlight of the programme was the grand finale to the tune of ‘Heal the World’.

   
     

Expressions 2012

The objective behind organizing ‘Expressions’, the cultural festival is to increase the social and literary interaction among students from different environs, with different opinions, but with the same motive of quenching their thirst for knowledge. Expressions is one such carnival, where a variety of competitions are held, ranging from debate and poetry recitation to dance and music and wherein several schools from all over the NCR participated. Expressions’ 2012 was inaugurated by Mrs. D. A. Tressler, Director-Somerville Schools, LCBM in India and Manager, Somerville School, Greater NOIDA. It commenced with the English Debate followed by English Poetry Recitation. Two new categories of competitions were added for the primary children. These were ‘Spell Bee & Brain Teasers’. Expressions 2012 saw the overall championship trophy bagged by Somerville School, NOIDA to enthusiastic applause.

   
     

W.C. Somerville Foot Ball Tournament 2012

The 8th W.C. Somerville Football Tournament was hosted to give an opportunity to the footballers of schools in the vicinity of Greater NOIDA to display their sportsman spirit, energy and skills through the game of football. Eight schools participated in this football tournament. It was a wonderful experience in which young people displayed a great deal of energy while playing to win the trophy. This year the W.C. Somerville Rolling Trophy was bagged by Fr. Agnel School,Greater NOIDA and the Runners up Trophy was secured by Somerville School, Greater NOIDA.

   
     

Inter Somerville Foot Ball Tournament 2012

In continuation of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the L.C.B.M. in India, an inter Somerville Football Tournament was organised by the Mission. The three Somerville sister schools participated in this tournament and the trophy was lifted by the students of Somerville School, Greater NOIDA.

   
     

Resonance 2011 Senior School Sports Day

The Annual School Senior Sports Day, ‘Resonance 2011’ was celebrated with lot of vigour and exuberance at Somerville School, Greater NOIDA on 26th November 2011. Mr. R. S. Khemchand, former President, Lott Carey Baptist Mission in India graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The programme began with the Welcome Dance ‘Wave Your Flag’. The very phrase arouses a deep sense of patriotic feeling. The drill by Class X presented ‘The Republic of India’. Students dressed in tricolour – Saffron symbolic of courage and sacrifice, White symbolizing peace and truth and the Green colour depicting faith and chivalry.

It was followed by the March Past led by the Sports Captain Ayush Srivastav holding the School Flag. Next were the School Contingent and the four House Contingents - Daniel House, David House, Moses House and Solomon House. The House Contingents had their House Captains leading their Houses.

The marching was followed by the various athletic events – races and relays, energetic and sparkling drill performances. A presentation by Class VI students with Dumbbells in their hands was a display of speed, agility, flexibility and coordination. Calisthenics a combination of music and exercise was the drill performed by the students of Class VIII. It was a perfectly choreographed exercise, displaying originality and intensity of spirit and mind.

Tired of the tread mill and looking for fun way to stay fit and healthy, Students of Class IX took to their heels and danced their way to glory. It was a reminder of the famous carnival of Brazil held before Easter. It was accompanied by drums, clapping and singing, it was judged the Best Drill.Class VII Students combined self defence, combat, physical fitness and spiritual development to present the technique of Taekwondo.

A dance from the land of five rivers, ‘Youthful Exuberance’ was the drill presented by Class XI using the rhythmic pattern the day to day activities of the villagers and the various sounds associated with these activities was presented in this drill.

Prizes were distributed by the dignitaries present for the various sports and athletic events, including Best Athletes, Best March Past, Best Drill.

The audience witnessed a journey through time and cultures. A perfect show of athletic talent and spirit of comradeship was depicted in Resonance 2011. The parent’s overwhelming response and appreciation was a source of encouragement for the school. A befitting end to the grand show was the Grand Finale, followed by vote of thanks by Dr. Mary Thomas, Principal, Somerville School, Greater NOIDA in which she reiterated the school’s commitment for excellence in physical as well as academic spheres.

JUNIOR SCHOOL ANNUAL DAY

The Annual Day of the Primary wing is a much awaited event. It was held on 23rd February 2012. There was a lot of enthusiasm and planning involved to make it a memorable day for the parents and students who participated.

Classes I,II, III C, D enacted ‘The story of Jonah’ a musical, in which each child proved their acting skills.

Classes IV, V and III A,B staged ‘The Four Messengers’. The play represented the four Patrons of the Houses namely – Daniel House, David House, Moses House and Solomon House. Through the play the students retold the lives of these Patrons and why they were special and chosen by God. The students were able to give out a message through each of these plays that – We are God’s children and when we cast all our cares on God, we know we are safe because He watches over each one of us.

The students with the hard work of the teachers under the able guidance of our Principal Dr. Mary Thomas, put up an excellent show. The choir sang melodiously in synch with the play and won the hearts of the audience. No doubt that the Annual Day was a grand success and will be remembered for a long time.

EXPRESSIONS 2011

‘Expressions’ is an inter school event through which Somerville School, Greater NOIDA provides an opportunity to the students of other schools to bring out the truest expression of their soul in the form of poetry, debate dance, music, art and through literary works. It is a platform where the students are free to showcase their individual talent as representatives of their school.

‘Expressions 11’, a four day long festival was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mrs. D. A. Tressler, Director, Somerville Schools, Lott Carey Baptist Mission in India. The participation by the schools from NOIDA and Greater NOIDA made this event a great success

The event included different competitions like, English Debate, Poetry Recitation, Sanskrit Shloka, Art & Sculpture, Indian Dance, Indian Music & Western Music, spanning over 4 days. The spirit and the enthusiasm of the participants visible throughout the event, was commendable.

This year, the overall trophy was bagged by Somerville School, NOIDA. The host school did not compete. Dr. Mary Thomas, Principal, Somerville School, Greater NOIDA, gave away the prizes on 02nd December 2011. With all its splendor, plethora of talent the event proved to be a milestone of the session 2011 – 2012.

W C SOMERVILLE MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

The 8th W.C. Somerville Football Tournament was hosted from 13th December to 16th December 2011 to give an opportunity to the footballers of schools in the vicinity of Greater NOIDA to display their sportsman spirit, energy and skills through the game of football.

Eight schools participated in this football tournament. It was a wonderful experience in which young people displayed a great deal of energy while playing to win the trophy. This year the W.C. Somerville Rolling Trophy was taken away by St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Greater NOIDA and the Runners up Trophy was won by Somerville School, Greater NOIDA.
